Gleeks should start getting ready for the experience of a lifetime: Fox has just announced that a “Glee” movie will be made and released in 3D. It will include footage from the upcoming summer tour, PopEater reports.

Though reports of a “Glee” movie have been making the rounds for quite some time, they never quite hit that pitch that other TV projects fans would have liked to see on the silver screen reached.

Yet, it’s happening, as a statement from Fox to the aforementioned e-zine confirms.

“20th Century Fox announced today that it will release ‘GLEE LIVE! 3D!,’ a feature film culled from footage that will be shot during this summer’s upcoming ‘Glee Live! In Concert!’ tour,” PopEater reports.

The film already has a release date: Gleeks should mark August 12 in their calendars because that’s when the “Glee” drops in theaters, where it will run for just 2 weeks.

Ryan Murphy, the series’ co-creator, says that the 3D film will be just the perfect opportunity for fans of the show who, for one reason or another, can’t get tickets to the tour, to get a taste of what the live gigs are like.

“There were only so many cities we could get to. We knew that not every fan who wanted to attend a concert would get that opportunity,” Murphy explains.

“Now, thanks to our friends at Twentieth Century Fox Film, we’ll be able to bring the concert experience to movie theaters across the country in full three dimensional glory,” he says.

“We promise every passionate Gleek a cinematic experience that will have them singing and dancing in the aisles,” Murphy further notes.

The film will even offer a bit more than the actual concert, since, as per the press release, it will also contain “special moments involving the characters themselves,” which could mean backstage footage or skits with the ever-popular characters.
