The divorce between Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries is about to take a nasty turn. Because Kris is determined not to go down without a fight, he wants to be offered the chance to prove in court that Kim married him for a boost in ratings, it has emerged.

Because he wants to show that to the entire world and thus clear his name, he's also planning on asking the judge to allow the trial to be televised, TMZ reports.

As must be common knowledge by now, shortly after Kim announced she was divorcing Kris after just 72 days of marital (?) bliss, speculation began to make the rounds that they both planned this to boost their public profile and, of course, make a fortune.

Kris refused to grant Kim the divorce, filing instead for an annulment on the basis of fraud. This step to have the trial televised would help him prove that their union was a sham from the start.

“Kris and his lawyer, Lee Hutton, want to 'expose the M.O. of reality TV' by proving Kim had no intention of staying married to him, but just wanted big ratings for her reality show,” TMZ informs.

“Now here's the irony. The duo wants to prove their point by asking the judge to allow TMZ and TV stations to broadcast the trial – something that the judge might find a tad hypocritical,” the e-zine adds.

Indeed, not few are those who are already saying that this is another move on the part of the Kardashians to make money – a sequel of sorts to Kim and Kris' “Fairytale Wedding” special that aired on E!.

As for Kris' motivation for doing this, TMZ notes that he's off on the wrong footing in his fraud claim.

“First of all, he's the one who proposed. Second, the publicity has made him famous and marketable and he'll make millions more than he would have otherwise,” the report argues.

“We've learned the prenup is extremely long and complicated... accounting for what would happen years into the future. Why would she go through the time and trouble of having a long prenup if she planned on pulling the plug on the marriage within a few months?” adds the e-zine.

Neither Kris nor Kim was immediately available for comment on the latest allegations about the ongoing divorce.
