Apple event tagline could refer not to a product, but a part

Apple likes to throw in short anecdotes with its press invitations whenever they schedule a big product unveiling. Most of the times, if not every time, the words contain hints regarding the upcoming announcements.

If history can serve as guidance once more, the tagline for tomorrow’s event – “It’s been way too long – should signal the rebirth of a certain something that the company has left unattended for a while. But the event announcement has more context than just plain text.

Both the press invites and the page dedicated to the show’s live stream on Apple.com show the message in question underneath of a very colorful outline of a partial Apple logo.

The outline bears the same colors as the old rainbow logo that the company used to slap on its computers back in the day. John Gruber of Daring Fireball recently took a stab in the dark to predict that Apple’s tagline might suggest that it will start selling Macs in a variety of colors again.

It’s a tantalizing prospect, but so is this. Earlier today, a report from Taiwan said that Apple was planning to introduce an all-new 3D logo on its products. The sources cited in the report said this would go down next year, but we have reasons to believe that many of the products set to ship in early 2015 will be announced tomorrow at the Town Hall event.

A Liquidmetal Apple logo bearing the rainbow colors in a 3D hologram sounds like reason enough to say “it’s been way too long [since we redesigned the thing]” isn’t it?
