Fold, folder, foldest: Pietro Guerra FLeX

Wacky designs are to be found everywhere, whether they are in furniture or clothing, cars or houses. What's more interesting is the fact that computers have slowly been comprised in the design-whirlpool and more new stuff is coming with each passing day. From the deja-vu gaming PCs to the dedicated, exquisite and exclusive multimedia or audiophile PCs, the road has been rather short and straight: this is why custom PCs, dedicated PCs, high-end or luxury PCs have come so fast and so intense in the modern life.

Today it's time for modular PCs; yeap, I didn't really know what this could mean until I caught a glimpse of such a thing... and stared in awe! Not only technicians are now involved in PC-making but it's clearly the dawn of signature PCs!

Pietro Guerra of Milan have been around in the tech-world since 1929 and now, close to their 80th anniversary, things stir up! The FleX is a new-concept PC, serving as both computer and hi-end/audiophile media center.

Apart from being equipped with a Bang & Olufsen hi-end amplifier pumping put 2x200W @ 4 Ohm or 2x100W @8 Ohm loaded with all top-shelf gimmicks from the Danish producer, the FleX is actually like a hi-end barebone PC, running on Core 2 Duo processors up to 2.3 GHz and with 512MB to 2 GB RAM, 250GB to 750GB SATA II Hard Drive; Dual Layer DVD?R?RW Drive; extremely quiet run based on 2 low rotation internal fans and internal fanless PSU. The configurations aren't at all fixed and the buyer can actually choose from a very broad palette of configs suiting his/her needs.

Now, the most striking fact about the FLeX is that it actually folds! It flexes, it breaks and sticks back, no matter how you would choose to name it. From the shape of a very usual VCR or receiver it transforms in a micro-cube in just moments and with few easy (but highly-engineered) moves. No cables to detach/re-attach and no screws to be moved: see the picture and get to know the transformations the FLeX undergoes.

Finally, I must add the PietroGuerra proprietary DynaLight system which analyzes the light conditions in the room to adjust permanently the luminosity and contrast of the screen for optimal viewing; and I have to tell you the starting price: a roughly $2850 for the lightest configuration.

NOTE: for extended specs, please check the manufacturer's homepage.
