Little or no chances for it to arrive this year, though

Palm has been currently working on a second Palm operating system for some time now. After it delayed it for the next year, the company's CEO promises that it will surely arrive during the next fiscal year.

Palm OS II was announced in April, this year and was supposed to be a follow up for the Palm OS version 5.4, aka Garnet. Two months ago, company officials stated that the new version should come in 2008, although they made no official statement regarding when exactly this should happen.

Palm missed sales estimates for its last fiscal quarter and also decided to prevent from shipping the Foleo smartphone companion that everyone has been waiting to see for a long time now. Their reason was that they wanted to keep their efforts focused on one single operating system to make the best of their resources and reach highest profit rates.

Ed Colligan, Palm Inc.'s CEO just made another statement concerning the close release for the Palm OS II. He said that it should be available sometime until the end of the next calendar year, although a more precise date for that is not known. The software has been expected for a long while now, but had some problems in actually hitting the market.

It is little surprising to see that Palm has oriented towards a Linux platform, as this solution seems to have been most efficient when it comes to mobile phones. The company's CEO promised that the new system will be just as easy to use as the current one, although their efforts should make an even better and easier to use one.

Palm's original plans proved to have failed to become true, although these ones should bring the OS II out on the market according to plans. There is plenty of time left until the end of the next calendar year for the company to find solutions to all problems that have prevented them from bringing it out up to this point.
