There are now workarounds for those having trouble viewing iWork '09 documents on their iPhone or iPod touch. Apple has acknowledged at least two issues that may occur when users try to view iWork '09 documents on their handsets. As such, the company's Support section has been updated with instructions to work around these issues until a fix is found.

Apple has learned that “iWork '09 documents might not display as expected on iPhone or iPod touch. In addition, some iWork '09 attachments may cause the Mail application to quit unexpectedly,” reads a post on the Support section of Apple's site.

The resolution includes a few workarounds. One of those is saving the document as a PDF. To save a document as a PDF file:

- Open the document you want to save as a PDF file. - Choose File > Print. - Choose “Save as PDF” from the PDF pop-up menu, and then choose a name and location for the PDF file. - Edit the values in the Title, Author, Subject, and Keywords fields. - You can search on the contents of those fields using Spotlight. - If you want to encrypt your document, click Security Options. - You can require readers to enter a password to read, print, or copy items from the document. - You can choose two passwords: one for opening the document, and another for printing or copying from the document.

Another workaround is to save a document as an iWork '08 document, Apple says. To save your iWork '09 document as an iWork '08 or Microsoft Office document, you must click "Save As..." and select "Save copy as." To save the changes you made using Keynote '09 as an iWork '08 or PowerPoint document, select "Save copy as" and choose PowerPoint Presentation or iWork '08.

In Numbers '09, select "Save copy as" to save your document in either Excel Document format, or iWork '08 format. In Pages '09, select "Save copy as" to save your document in Word Document or iWork '08 format.

After choosing your workaround, you can e-mail your PDF or iWork '08 document, which should now be viewable on the iPhone or iPod touch.

This is pretty much all you can do until Apple rolls out a software fix. Also, the Mac maker promises to keep this topic updated as more information becomes available.
