Julianne Hough, singer, dancer, actress, and overall fan-favorite, put herself in the line of fire when, this year for Halloween, she chose to wear a costume that involved blackface makeup. According to a new report, she wouldn’t have even realized her mistake had it not been for her good friend Isla Fisher.

At the end of October, Hough attended a Halloween party at the Casamigos Tequila in Hollywood and, as the photo attached to this article can confirm, she showed up with a face full of makeup meant to make her look black.

She was dressed as Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren from the new series “Orange Is the New Black,” who is played by African-American actress Uzo Abuda. Julianne is obviously white, so she resorted to blackface to better get the “feel” of her favorite character.

Us Weekly claims that Isla was “mortified” when she saw Julianne stroll in with blackface makeup, so she was the first to suggest her to remove it. This explains photos available online, of Hough leaving the party with most of her face makeup removed.

“In an attempt to help, the Wedding Crashers comedienne recommended that Hough ‘go to the bathroom and wipe her face off,’ the source says. (Fisher’s rep denies that she intervened.) ‘Isla hoped she got to Julianne before photos were taken,’ the insider adds,” the magazine writes.

Clearly, that was not the case, because paparazzi got several good shots of Julianne when she arrived at the party and, even if they hadn’t, people would have still found out about her offensive costume because she tweeted several pics of it while getting ready to go out.

Those photos were removed from her feed later, when she posted an apology for causing any offense.

“I am a huge fan of the show Orange is the New black, actress Uzo Aduba, and the character she has created. It certainly was never my intention to be disrespectful or demeaning to anyone in any way. I realize my costume hurt and offended people and I truly apologize,” Julianne wrote.

She’s been keeping a very low profile ever since.
