Or maybe a hybrid car?

It's not a joke, although it could be a good one, but some Americans don't have a clue about what the modern communication technology of VoIP really means. Even if Skype, the most popular VoIP tool in the world has already surpassed 70 million subscribers, that doesn't make a difference for the American participants in a survey put together by Harris.

Maybe if the technology was referred to by its full name, Voice over Internet Protocol, that would ring a bell in some people's minds and they could at least point the actual area of use of what otherwise is just a bizarre acronym. According to the results of this survey, one in five participants think VoIP is a European hybrid car. Another 10 percent of the 1,006 people questioned by Harris said they thought VoIP was a low-carb vodka.

Considering there are huge sums of money being invested in the education of users towards new technologies, we can only ask ourselves just how efficient these methods are and how wisely the funds are invested to promote modern solutions such as VoIP. Since this name seems to be a bit confusing for users, maybe something like "digital phone" or "digital voice" would make it easier to remember and not have VoIP mistaken for alcoholic beverages or futuristic vehicles.
