Yes, you could become invisible on Facebook, and no, it does not involve magic potions or an Invisibility Cloak. The only thing you have to do is to become well acquainted with the privacy menu.

So, if you are trying to hide your personal information from prying eyes, there are some things you should know about the settings Facebook has come up with in order to protect you online.

Facebook offers a whole range of options to make your profile more private, but since it can get quite difficult to scroll through the whole menu, there are some basic steps anyone can easily follow.

Anyone can adjust their privacy settings

The first step would be to choose who can see what you will be posting in the near future. By clicking on the little lock from the upper right corner, you will get a drop down list from where you can select who will see your posts from that moment on.

You might notice that the option to share with Friends of friends is now gone. Don’t worry, it has not been completely removed, you can still find it if you choose to customize your privacy settings, although you might want to avoid this option since sharing with friends of friends basically means sharing your information with everybody.

But there is more. You cannot just limit what you will be posting from now onwards, but also what you have posted so far using the More settings option.

Facebook also gives you the option to hide yourself from Facebook searches, so that you can actually choose who can look you up using the email address that you used to sign up.

But you can not only hide yourself from people finding you on Facebook, but also on Google for instance. All you have to do is make sure that the option that says “Let Other Search Engines Link to Your Timeline” is unchecked.

Also you might want to keep an eye on what kind of application you sign up for, as there are some apps that could leak your data. In this case, you have two options, you can either switch off the Apps from See more settings menu, or you can simply remove only the harmful applications from the list.
