The superhero that fascinated not just the entire American civilization, but who has become a true international icon is to be seen again on the big screens, starting July 28.
Superman, the perfect man and superhero combined, is now played by Brandon Routh, who is already familiar with the character, as he played him in TV series such as 'Smallville' and 'The New Adventures of Superman'. Yet critics are not satisfied with the interpretation and the new image created for Superman.
It has been a long time since late Cristopher Reeve's memorable part as the superhero and, since then, new nuances have been added to the character, as it happened with the animated series 'The Justice League'. One could say that it has grown considerably over the last decade. But it seems that, this time, people might be induced to believe that Bryan Singer's Superman is actually gay.
The director, who is openly homosexual, is accused that the Steel Man has now become a woos, being far more suitable for a soap-opera than for such a tale of extraordinary adventures. The critics' response is yet even stronger as an article appeared in 'Advocate', a gay magazine, which stirred rumors related to Superman's sexuality.
Singer defends himself and his movie by saying that, quote, 'it is the most heterosexual character in any movie I've ever made'. Superman is not too pretty, he is handsome! Yet, the director has enough sense to admit changing some things about his character, saying that the movie is a 'chick-flick' (but not a soap-opera!).
