Is Phishing A Dying Breed?

Over the last months, we kept hearing news about how the phising has got worse or about the increasing number of victims.

But the latest statistics carried out by the APWG (Anti-Phishing Working Group) prove that the lifespan of a forged site created to deceive users has decreased to only 5.5 days.

These
results were obtained thanks to a set of strict rules enforced by the Group, and the performance is impressive if we come to think that, 18 months ago, the statistics showed that such a site could have even lasted for weeks.

Anti-Phishing Working Group is touting this performance as a major victory against the phishing phenomenon, and for the second month in a row, the number of phishing companies has decreased.

According to the same statistics, August recorded a peak in the number of phishing sites, with 5,230 active pages. This announcement alerted users and some banking institutions, making them more cautious. Unfortunately, phishers also have taken measures to ensure their attacks' success, including the increase of the number of forged sites.
