This summer will see the release of one of the most expected motion pictures. When you say "Transformers" you should refer to the 1980's Hasbro cartoons that thrilled an entire generation. Well, after July 4th you will most certainly be talking about a movie that will (theoretically) break any previous known ground in special effects.
Director Michael Bay, who you might associate with the 1998 "Armageddon" blockbuster, has declared that he wanted to make this movie appealing to those who have never heard of the Transformers before. As for the ones who grew up with the Autobots, Bay promises that this movie will make their dreams come true. We should be inclined to believe him since Steven Spielberg himself is producing this flick. On this occasion, he promised that the special effects used in this movie would be as innovating as the ones of the first "Jurassic Park".
The storyline tries to respect the original concept of the Hasbro series, meaning the battle between the two factions of an alien race, namely the Autobots and the Decepticons, which are giant robots with the ability to transform (the Transformers...transform, who would have guessed?) into cars, planes, helicopters, and so on. Their battle moves from their home world of Cybertron to our very own planet Earth.
Perhaps the best feature of the movie is the fact that the Transformers look real. In the comics and in the 1986 animated movie, the drawings and the images were not at all convincing. That was truly a work of fantasy. But the movie that is going to hit the big screens on July 4th comes up with unbelievable special effects. The Autobots and the Decepticons look as real as they come. Also, the script is written in such a manner that although this is clearly a sci-fi story, it just might happen.
Another feature that is sure to delight the fans of the series is the fact that Michael Bay managed to convince actor Peter Cullen to do the voice of the main Autobot hero, Optimus Prime. For those who don't know, Cullen is the voice of Optimus in the original 1980 series.
In conclusion, "Transformers" is tipped to be something different from the other movies that showcased comic book superheroes, now let's just hope it meets the expectations.
