Google's new patent features a Glass-like device with two screens

We were just laughing about Google Glass and the future of the world we live in as a banking ad was painting a rather grim picture of families immersed in the online world with the help of Glass-like devices.

Now, a newly revealed patent filed by Google indicates an extremely similar device that features screens in front of both eyes.

The new patent features two small screens, although there seem to be some differences between this device and Google Glass. For instance, Glass does feature one small screen, but it is situated a bit higher than the straight line of sight so all users need to look a bit higher to check out whatever update they received.

The new patent that lists Max Braun (Google Glass project leader) as one of its inventors presents devices whose screens are in direct line of sight, meaning it would be quite difficult to walk on the streets or even to act normal while wearing a pair.

On the other hand, it could end up serving a different experience to users, including 3D virtual environments. Maybe even offer something like Oculus Rift if Google figures out a way to block out the rest of the world and get people to focus on the two screens alone.

The device does come with some perks, according to the patent. The display would change according to the real world in front of you. That basically means that the virtual image’s saturation, hue, contrast, and so on, will be adjusted.

The patent was registered on March 11, 2014 and it could very well show the direction that Google hopes to take Glass in the years to come or even an alternate device. However, considering the slow acceptance rate of the basic Glass device, it does seem unlikely for the company to market this new device (if it ever becomes reality) as an updated version.

Under these circumstances, the more likely scenario is that Google will in fact try its hand at virtual reality and 3D gaming. Similarly to Oculus Rift, such a device might even have more success than Glass since its main target would be gamers, rather than the general population.

Regardless, this device is far from becoming a reality. After all, the company has been working on Google Glass for years and it has yet to make it available for everyone to buy. This is supposed to happen sometime this year, but no definitive timeline has been provided.
