Players will have more options, more capital ships

Video game developer Ironclad and publisher Stardock say that players who are interested in the upcoming Rebellion expansion for their strategy title Sins of a Solar Empire will deliver more options when it comes to both faction mechanics and capital ship use.

Speaking to GameSpy as part of an interview, Brian Clair, a producer working on Sins of a Solar Empire, stated, “The TEC Loyalists are very defensive. If you’re a gamer who likes to turtle, they’re probably the best suited for you. They’ve been designed with that in mind.

“The TEC Rebels are very aggressive, so if you’re a player who likes to go out, doesn’t turtle at all, moves very quickly from one target to the next, they would fit you the best.”

The other two factions, the Advent and the Vasari, are similarly divided, each of the groups reflecting one of the original faction’s facets and enabling the gamer to have more options on how they can approach the game.

The developers also talked about the new Titans, bigger than ever capital ships that are faction specific and crucial to late game success.

Clair added, “It basically goes down to their factional view and their racial view. “The TEC, of all three races, are probably the least technologically developed overall. Their Titans tend to be utilitarian, they’re very militaristic-looking, they’re not very elegant to look at. But they’re powerful, they get the job done, based on whether you’re a Rebel or a Loyalist.”

Each Titan has three normal powers and an unlockable one, but they also have passive abilities that develop parts of the ship and make the entire flotilla around it more powerful.

Rebellion is a standalone expansion for Sins of a Solar Empire and will upgrade both the core mechanics and the graphics of the space strategy game, which was initially launched in late 2008.
