Video game publisher Activision has announced that Iron Dragon, an action flight adventure created by developer Christopher Hui, has won the first prize in the Independent Games Competition that it launched during last year.

The first prize means that Hui will get 175,000 dollars (139,899 Euro) and is free to use the money any way he sees fit.

Second prize, which also includes a 75,000 dollar (59,956 Euro) purse, has gone to Planet Smashers, a multiplayer action game created by Michael Stanton.

The creators who take part in the Activision Independent Games Competition keep the rights to their games, but the publisher gets a 30-day window during which it can exercise a right of first negotiation, trying to get the developer to sign a publishing agreement.

Dan Winters, the vice president of external development, stated, “We want to thank the talented developers who submitted their work and our partners at IndieCade. The energy and enthusiasm of the indie community continues to inspire us and we’re thrilled to help make their dreams become reality.”
