When we watch the football games from the Islamic countries, there's always something that's missing. And I don't mean the level on which the players practice or perform during matches, but the lack of women inside the football stadiums. Lots of Islamic countries, if not all of them, do not allow women to enter a stadium or to watch
a sporting event. This happens in lots of fields, not only sport. But anyway…
From now on, Iran is no longer part of this group of countries. Starting today, at least as Iran is concerned, women can freely step into a stadium and watch football or any other kind of sports competition. Moreover, the Iranian president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, said that proper seats will be arranged so that women can benefit from the best seats "in the house".
"It was very clear for us, and many have proven it, that the presence of women and their families on the football field is a great thing and a clear demonstration of islamic ethics", said Ahmadinejad.
This decision comes 27 years after the Islamic revolution when, among other measures, women were prohibited from entering any stadium in Iran.
