Speaking at a conference in Tehran earlier this week, Iran’s Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan warned that the country’s adversaries could be planning to launch devastating cyberattacks against Iran’s industrial and scientific infrastructures.

Of course, one of the main “suspects” is the US, which is said to have been involved in the development of Stuxnet, a disruptive piece of malware used against Iranian nuclear facilities back in 2010.

“The cyber war is serious; today, information technology has been institutionalized in all bodies and the enemy come in control over this system, it may destroy it,” Dehqan said, according to Fars News.

Since the Stuxnet incident, Iran claims to have blocked several cyberattacks against its cyberspace.

The country denies the accusations made by US officials regarding its involvement in the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam distributed denial-of-service attacks launched against United States financial institutions until recently.
