Iran is not letting go of the Persian Gulf Google "scandal" and is now threatening to sue the company over the matter. What's more, Google should be expecting serious damages over the matter. Where exactly Iran is going to sue Google and on what grounds is another matter.
Perhaps trying to take a neutral stance on a sensitive matter, Google decided to remove the Persian Gulf name from Google Maps. That was the name used previously to the change, and it's still used in Google Earth. That's the historical name and the internationally known and recognized one as well.
But some Arab countries in the region aren't particularly keen on the entire gulf being named after just one of their neighboring countries, Iran being located on the historical lands of Persia, so they're calling it the Arab Gulf. Iran has been highly defensive about the name and has criticized other companies in the past for even smaller matters. It's taking
Google's move as a great offense, accusing it of fabricating lies.
