Iran wishes to launch Persian cat into space, promises to safely return it to Earth

This past Monday, Iran proudly announced that it was making plans to send a Persian cat into space.

Should things go as planned, the lucky feline will get to see what Earth looks like from way up in the sky by next year's March.

The rocket carrying it is expected to reach the height of 72 miles (116 kilometers) before safely returning to Earth. For the cat's sake, one can only hope that this will indeed be the case.

According to Metro, Iran is also considering launching a mouse and a rabbit in space. Unfortunately for these animal astronaut wannabes, the cat takes priority.

Earlier this year, Iran claimed that it had successfully sent a monkey into space.

However, because the monkey appeared to have drastically changed its looks while in orbit, many believe that this launch was anything but a successful one.
