The fastest texter in the US is a 15-year-old girl from De Moines, Iowa, who has managed to beat stiff competition to win the much-coveted title and the $50,000 prize in the LG National Texting Championship, CNN informs. Kate Moore usually sends out about 500 texts a day and has often found herself in trouble for her habit but, as it turns out, it was all for the better.

The competition itself was filled with extremely difficult challenges, from having to text blindfolded to doing so while running an obstacle course. Accuracy was rated just as much as speed, as also was knowledge of acronyms currently in use and precision, the same source reports. Moreover, while most teens left the competition heartbroken for not being able to make it in the final, Moore was the one who got to take the title and prize home – but not after literally believing she was this close to having it slip through her fingers.

“I felt like I was gonna die.” Kate told an amazed audience after completing the round where she had to complete an obstacle course while sending difficult to type texts. “The finals on Tuesday afternoon pitted Dynda Morgan, 14, of Savannah, Georgia, against Kate Moore, 15, of Des Moines, Iowa. The two went head to head in a best-of-three showdown to see who could most quickly pound out lengthy texts predetermined by the judges – with no errors. In the tiebreaker, the two girls furiously raced to thumb the final text: ‘Zippity Dooo Dahh Zippity Ayy...MY oh MY, what a wonderful day! Plenty of sunshine Comin’ my way....Zippitty Do Dah Zippity Aay! WondeRful Feeling Wonderful day!’” CNN says of the final round that decided the grand winner.

It took some time before Moore was crowned winner since she had apparently forgotten to press send for her last text. When she did, though, it became clear that she was the official fastest texter in the US at the moment, which made up for the many times her mother told her she was wasting time (eventually, even she realized Kate’s love for texting was a good thing since it enabled her to keep in contact with her at all times). Now, the only thing she has to do is to decide what to do with the prize money, as she says for the news agency.

“CNN: How mny txts do u snd a day? A month? Moore: Uhhh about lyk 400-500 in a day, an avrg of 12014 thousand a month? CNN: Wht r u going to do w the 50 k? Moore: Idk yet! Prlly spend a good amount of the $$$......but ya gotta save some 2 b smart of course!” goes a fragment of a text exchange between CNN and Kate Moore.
