Iomega has announced the availability of two new members in their portable eGo hard drive line. The new hard-disks will feature higher storage capacities, as well as a new FireWire connector.
They will be showcased during the Macworld Conference & Expo starting today.

The newest Iomega drives come in capacities of 160 GB and 250 GB and can be connected both via an USB 2.0 port or via the FireWire interface. The drives are available in a wide color palette: Cherry Red, Jet Black, Midnight Blue and Alpine White. The initial model of Iomega eGo Drive was launched back in June in a standard size of 160 GB. Ever since, the storage solution has received a plethora of awards.

"With the eGo Portable Hard Drive, Iomega shook up the industry by introducing fashion to a world previously known for little gray and black boxes," said Tom Kampfer, President, Iomega Corporation. "Now we're raising the bar with exciting new models that offer more capacity and connectivity with PCs and Macs. The new models are available in several different stylish colors, making the Iomega eGo Portable Hard Drive the ideal portable storage product for family, friends, students, professionals and anyone who wants to add some personality to their computer."

The drive comes in a 2.5-inch from factor that can be easily carried in a briefcase or even in a large pocket. The multitude of color options makes it easier for the user to match the disk's looks with those of the notebook. The drive comes in an elegant, curved chassis with chrome end-caps to add extra style.

The functional aspect is also impressive. The drive is powered via the Usb or FireWire data cable directly from the computer, thus eliminating the need of a bulky, external adapter. The drives come with a version of EMC Retrospect software that automates the backup process, either scheduled or on-demand.

The disk works with both Windows and Mac operating systems and supports the most common file systems. The 160 GB drive is available immediately for $139.95, while the upgraded, dual-interface version can be purchased for $159.95. The 250GB Dual Interface eGo Portable Hard Drive is priced at $229.95, while its USB variant is $20 cheaper.
