Coming to offer something for the data center market instead of the consumer segment, Iomega has created a new NAS array that can use either HDDs or SSDs, depending on user preference.

This is not the first time that Iomega steps forward to reveal some new sort of NAS device, but it is the latest.

Carrying the name of StorCenter px12-350r Network Storage Array, it relies on an Intel Core 2 Duo central processing unit.

It has a base capacity of 8 TB (four 2 TB drives), but one can push that mark all the way to 36 TB in a single array, though solid state drives can be chosen instead, if speed is valued over space.

VMware, Citrix and Windows Certifications have already been earned, which means that prospective SMBs (small to medium businesses) need not worry about this aspect.

What's more, Iomega threw in support for full Hyper-V Live Migration, as well as backup deduplication with EMC Avamar, among other things.

"The new Iomega StorCenter px12-350r leverages leading EMC technologies, bringing best-in-class storage, security and cloud capabilities that cater to the network storage and management needs of today's small and mid-sized businesses, and distributed enterprises," said Jonathan Huberman, president of Iomega.

"As the flagship of our most advanced and powerful business class of NAS devices, the px12-350r incorporates the latest in high performance technologies including solid state disk drives, expanded memory and 3TB 7200 RPM disk drives, as well Iomega's Personal Cloud technology and the only network storage array in the world to natively support Avamar deduplicating backups. The px12-350r is truly advanced network storage that can be the foundation for today's high growth SMBs and distributed enterprises."

Iomega is already selling the newcomer worldwide, for the price of $5,999.99 (8 TB) to $6,999.99 (12 TB). The aforementioned 32 GB capacity can be attained by buying expansion packs.
