A tough yet attractive portable storage solution

Iomega is one of the best-known manufacturers of HDD-based portable data storage solutions, offering users quite an impressive line-up of such products in several specific ranges. And one of the company's latest offerings is the Iomega eGo Portable Hard Drive USB 2.0, a device that provides 160 GB of storage space in a very tough, yet quite stylish casing.

First of all, let's talk about the external design. Thus, Iomega's new eGo Drive has an elegantly curved cherry-red chassis with chrome endcaps that, according to the company, "sets it apart from other portable hard drives" and " introduces flair and panache to the HDD market". This is quite true, actually, since the device's external design is not something one sees just about everyday.

However, the eGo provides a lot more than just a very attractive external casing. Thus, the device packs quite an impressive storage capability, provided by the USB-powered 160GB 2.5-inch drive, and offers just about enough space for 640,000 photos, over 2,900 hours of music or 240 hours of video. The portable HDD also comes with EMC Retrospect HD software for automatic backups, scheduled backups, or on-demand backups. Moreover, since this is a portable storage solution, the eGo requires some shock-protection features and said features are provided by Iomega's DropGuard technology that protects the drive from accidental damage caused by drops of up to 51 inches (1.3 meters).

"The Iomega eGo Portable Hard Drive calls attention to itself with its beautiful red contoured case, while its automatic backup software works transparently to protect your digital life," said Ashley Ettwein, HDD Product Manager, Iomega Corporation. "The eGo Drive gives users a high capacity portable hard drive as well as a fashion statement that says they're different than all the rest."

The Iomega eGo portable HDD retails for around 160 US dollars (hence, around 1 US dollar per GB), which is a very affordable and fair price for such a portable data storage solution.
