Ever since Intel released its WiDi technology, wireless video streaming become one of the hottest topics in the computer business, all sort of companies announcing similar technologies, Iogear being the latest to do so with its Wireless HD Computer to TV Kit.

Much like its competitors before it Iogear uses the same type of setup for streaming video content from your laptop or desktop PC right to your TV comprised of a transmitter and a standalone receiver that get mounted to your TV via HDMI, VGA or DVI.

But the similarities end here since this solution uses the Ultra-WideBand (UWB) band for transmitting the video content while also requiring only a USB slot on your computer, a HDMI out port not being necessary making this a lot easier to use then its competing solution while also allowing Iogear to use a really compact transmitter.

This technology however is not without its flows, since the Wireless HD Computer to TV Kit is only able to stream video at 720p resolutions, similar to Intel's WiDi technology, 1080p resolution being limited to still images and slideshows.

HDCP protected content may also prove to be a problem for Iogear's kit, although I can't say this for sure since the company doesn't state if its solution can or can not stream this type of content.

Other feature include 32-bit true color depth support, up to 30 feet of coverage, a 3.5mm output audio jack, the Wireless HD Computer to TV Kit also being able to work in either mirror or extended mode, Iogear saying this product is made reliable and secure by using the wireless USB standard so it will not interfere with your existing Wi-Fi network.

Additional receiver units can also be added, this solution also being compatible with Windows running PC's as well as Macs, Iogear selling the Wireless HD Computer to TV Kit for $180, a bit to high if you consider it isn't capable of 1080p video streaming.
