Almost any user that employs a digital media product to store his personal data on knows how bad it is to lose it all because of unpredictable accidents. This, of course, includes fires and water-related hazards that can seriously damage a hard disk or any other digital product used for storage. Apparently, this should no longer be a problem if you buy one of ioSafe's products.

The company specializes in providing storage products that can offer a considerable protection against natural disasters. ioSafe uses 2.5-inch hard drives enclosed in 3.5-inch chassis that are specially built with heat and water barriers. And, yesterday, ioSafe announced the industry's first 3.5-inch hard drives that come with disaster protection. These new products are said to provide storage support to both the businesses and consumer market.

The fire protection is provided by the company's "DataCast endothermic insulation technology," which is said to form a chemical bond with water molecules that, at temperatures above 160 degrees Fahrenheit, releases water vapor to limit the internal temperature of the unit, according to the company. This technology can allow the ioSafe hard drive to sustain outside temperatures of up to 1400 degrees Fahrenheit for up to 15 minutes.

"The ioSafe 3.5 series represents an entirely new direction for the data storage industry," said Robb Moore, CEO of ioSafe. "What we're offering is versatility, simplicity and peace of mind. Almost any computer or storage device containing vulnerable yet critical data can now have the ease of disk storage combined with our data disaster protection technology and exclusive Disaster Recovery Service. From small home offices to the largest enterprise, anyone struggling with backup, disaster recovery, security and compliance should consider the benefits of ioSafe technology." he added.

On the other hand, the company's HydroSafe technology is designed to offer hard drive protection from fresh or salt-water damage, including full immersion. The same technology is used for offering hard drives the necessary heat dissipation.

The ioSafe 3.5 family comprises two series, both of which benefit from the company's patented protective technologies. The 3.5 Pilot line includes drives with capacities ranging from 80 GB to 320GB. These products use a SATA I interface and come with 8MB buffer. The second product line is the 3.5 Squadron line, which uses SATA II hard drives running at 7200 RPM and with capacities that include 80GB, 160GB and 200GB.

The ioSafe 3.5 series are immediately available at a number of distributors and integrators. The MSRP for the 3.5 Pilot series ranges from $329 to $449, while the MSRP for the Squadron line can go from $359 up to $459.
