More material makers are funneling money into OLED

Organic Light Emitting Diodes (OLED) is a technology that has only recently begun to gain mass adoption, and it still has a long way to go.

Converted efforts can shorten the time to market though, and there definitely are enough people seeking to both promote and profit from OLED (technology that needs no backlight because the LEDs are part of the organic compounds that produce the image).

According to a new report, less than 10,000 OLED TV panels will be produced in 2013, but investments in the technology will grow as panel makers warm up to it.

Thus, between 2014 and 2015, shipments may rise all the way to 1.7 million units.

The figure won't hold a candle to normal LCDs or even Plasm TVs, but there is no denying the large jump from 10,000 to almost two million.
