Today, leading mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson announced the release of new mobile phones running under Google's Android operating system, and the Sony Ericsson Xperia ray was among them.

Unveiled at the CommunicAsia 2011 conference in Singapore, the new device comes with a 3.3-inch touchscreen display that can deliver a 854 x 480 pixels resolution, and sports a 1GHz application processor inside.

The mobile phone also comes with a Reality Display with Mobile BRAVIA Engine, as well as with an 8.1 megapixel photo snapper on the back, with Exmor R for mobile and HD video functionality.

The new Xperia device is only 9.4mm thin, but Sony Ericsson claims that it sports a full set of features, along with the leading design the company is already known for.

The specifications list of this device also includes a front-facing camera with video calling capabilities, as well as a great resolution and brightness for the scratch resistant screen, in addition to the integrated touch keys.

On top of that, Sony Ericsson integrated the Facebook inside Xperia feature with the new mobile phone, so that users can enjoy greater social interaction on their devices.

Daniel Sandblom, Global Product Marketing Manager, Sony Ericsson said: “We expect Xperia ray to appeal to consumers who are looking for a combination of beautiful design and a rich feature set.

“We are able to uniquely deliver this with a combination of premium materials and multimedia features provided by Sony.”

The Android 2.3 Gingerbread-based phone comes with 300MB of internal memory, and with a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space (with a 4GB microSD memory card in the package).

Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity were included into the mix as well, along with Wi-Fi Hotspot functionality, USB mass storage, aGPS, 3.5 mm audio jack, and FM Radio.

The new Android handset measures 111 x 53 x 9.4 mm and weighs in at 100 grams. It sports a 1500mAh battery inside, capable of delivering up to 7 hours of talk time, or up to 440 hours of standby time.
