With the latest feature introduced to Windows Live Hotmail, Microsoft is making it extremely simple for users to enjoy the flexibility of seamlessly adding and managing multiple email addresses to a single account, while securing their online identities.

The Alias feature has been rolled out to Windows Live Hotmail worldwide, introducing the concept of dispensable email addresses.

I don’t know about you, but I’m joggling a number of different email addresses, and according to statistics from the software giant I’m not alone, with the average person having at least three addresses.

One of my email addresses is used to sign into every non-essential service that I come across. I’ve long stopped trying to clean span from this one. I also have personal and professional email addresses that I keep separate for obvious purposes.

It appears that with the new Windows Live Hotmail Aliases feature, I won’t have to any longer.

“Email aliases let you create completely different email addresses that you can use to receive email into your primary account without anyone knowing what your primary email address is,” revealed Dharmesh Mehta, Director, Windows Live Product Management.

“Starting today, you can add up to five aliases per year to your Hotmail account, up to fifteen aliases in total, all designed to make it a lot easier to organize different types of email and personas in one Hotmail inbox without having to give out your primary email address if you don’t want to.”

Users need only sign into their Hotmail accounts, hover the mouse over the Inbox, click on the ‘More actions for your inbox’ option and then select Create a Hotmail alias.

Of course, Hotmail users are free to leverage aliases in combination with the other features of the email service to both cut down spam but also take advantage of multiple accounts concomitantly.
