Advanced data-protection Live CD

We are happy to announce the release of a new Live CD based on the popular Ubuntu operating system, called Ubuntu Privacy Remix, or UPR for short. What is UPR? It is a heavily customized Linux Live CD that tries to provide a working environment for people that deal with highly-sensitive data. It's a well-known fact that there are many ways to spy and monitor people's computers today (rootkits, trojans, keyloggers), therefore this Live CD is like the Forth Knox of computer operating systems.

"The base idea is to relocate working with private data into a secure working environment, strictly apart from everything else you do with your computer (surf the web, chat, games, ...)." - said the creator of Ubuntu Privacy Remix.

Highlights of Ubuntu Privacy Remix:

• No hard drive installation • Read-only filesystem • No Internet connection • TrueCrypt encryption software • Extended TC-Volumes • GNOME 2.22 desktop environment

As mentioned above, this is only a Live CD, which means that it has a read-only filesystem and it cannot be installed on a local or portable hard drive, or a USB storage device. Not only that, but the system cannot access local hard drives. Moreover, for your safety, the kernel has been modified in such a way so it cannot activate network hardware, which means... no Internet connection! Because of these modifications, some of you may call Ubuntu Privacy Remix the operating system for paranoiacs, but in some cases, it's very efficient.

Ubuntu Privacy Remix is based on the Ubuntu 8.04 LTS (Hardy Heron), it is dubbed Hardened Heron and includes some of the best cryptographic applications available today: GnuPG and TrueCrypt. At the moment, Ubuntu Privacy Remix is in an RC (Release Candidate) state, but we've tested it and it runs without flaws. For your viewing pleasure, we have posted below some screenshots with the customized boot splash, the desktop environment and some applications...
