GOG, the best place to find older, DRM free games, is now a competitor for Valve's Steam client with the introduction of GOG Galaxy, a new online gaming platform.

Unlike Steam, GOG Galaxy includes only DRM-free titles and is focused on bringing old, popular games to players' attention. The lack of AAA titles will be addressed in the future, but for now GOG Galaxy has only one big game to offer and that's The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

Since we have just been accepted into the beta, we thought it would be nice to show you what GOG Galaxy looks like and what it has to offer.

First of all, the graphics are very clean, a pleasure for your eyes. Everything looks nice and smooth and the UI is intuitive enough, since there aren't too many controls.

Among the most important features that GOG Galaxy offers users is the option to keep your games updated automatically. However, in a future version, the client will also allow players to enable the option to be notified about game updates without downloading them.

Choose not to download updates automatically

This will allow players to roll back to certain versions of the game if the updates provided by developers break the game or the saves.

The community section looks like a forum where each game has its own thread where players can enter and make other topics or threads.

The beta also has achievements, online multiplayer and matchmaking with cross-play, for compatible titles. Cross-play means that you will be able to play with people that own the game on Steam.

We have tested the download speed of the client and it looks like it's on par with what Steam has to offer, so there should be no complaints here.

With GOG Galaxy, you will be able to download any extras available for a game separately. If a game has a manual, artwork, wallpapers, or any extras, they will show up on the game's page and you can choose to download them with a click of a button.

And the best thing is that GOG Galaxy is optional, so if you don't want your PC to run another online gaming platform, then you can download your GOG games directly from the website.
