Out of the new lineup of LifeCam VX webcams from Microsoft, the LifeCam VX-5000 comes complete with "contortionist" capabilities, as Microsoft promises that the product will "bend over backward" for its users. The main characteristic of LifeCam VX-5000 is delivering increased flexibility and specifically for this purpose, the webcam sports a one-of-a-kind bendable attachment base designed to mold and adapt to various surfaces. The unique feature of LifeCam VX-5000 means that the webcam can be tailored effortlessly to both desktops
and notebooks.
"With the LifeCam VX-5000 we are changing the perception of webcams from boring and bulky to fun and flexible. We designed this LifeCam to match the experience its technology delivers — it’s all about fun and letting consumers share their personalities", said Michael Cowan, product marketing manager for the Hardware Division at Microsoft.
The Redmond company has highlighted a few features for LifeCam VX-5000, including Photo Swap, which will permit users to witness first hand the reaction of their friends and family as they view digital photos swapped via Windows Live Messenger. Additionally, LifeCam VX-5000 is optimized for Windows Live and comes to the table with Windows LiveCall Button, LifeCam Dashboard, a built-in unidirectional microphone and pan, tilt and 3X digital zoom capabilities. The webcam is capable of taking 1.3-megapixel still photos and has a video resolution of 640x480.
"Microsoft is also offering the LifeCam VX-500 and the LifeChat LX-2000 — two affordable products, each with a unique, compact design. The LifeCam VX-500 is a versatile webcam designed to fit on notebooks and desktop PCs. The LifeChat LX-2000 is a full-size headset that folds down into a small, portable shape. Both are perfect products for consumers on the go", the Redmond company added.
For LifeCam VX-5000 consumers will have to cough up $49.95. Microsoft informed that the webcam is planned to hit retail shelves in June 2008. Both the LifeCam VX-500 and LifeChat LX-2000 will be released by the end of this month and will come with price tags of $16.95 and respectively $29.95.
