Intex seems to be the first Indian OEM to introduce a true octa-core smartphone in the country. The company has just announced the upcoming availability of Intex Aqua Octa, powered by MediaTek’s MT6592 chipset.

According to AndroidOS, the smartphone will be available for purchase in India beginning January 15 for only Rs 19,999 outright, which is about $320 or €235. Customers will be offered the option to choose between white and black colors.

Aside from the powerful octa-core chipset provided by MediaTek, Intex Aqua Octa boasts a huge 6-inch IPS capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720p) resolution.

In addition, it offers dual-SIM support (3G / 2G) and a high-capacity 2300 mAh Li-Ion battery, which has yet to be rated by the manufacturer.

On the inside, the smartphone comes equipped with MediaTek’s MT6592 chipset, which accommodates an octa-core processor clocked at 1.7GHz, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory.

No word on microSD card slot, but Intex has confirmed that the Aqua Octa sports an enhanced 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with LED flash, autofocus and full HD (1080p) video recording, as well as a secondary 5-megapixel front-facing camera.

Intex Aqua Octa will ship with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box, which is a pity considering that Google has already released Android 4.4 KitKat platform for a few months now.

“The launch of ‘Aqua Octa’ reinforces our brand’s promise to bring premium smart devices at the leading edge of technology, to improve the quality of life of people at large. With the True Octa Core processor, Intex achieves another industry first by bringing the fastest 6-inch Android smartphone ever for the technically savvy customer.

“The incredibly responsive touch screen and innovative user interface adds that ‘plus one’ that our customers have come to expect from every Intex device,” said Sanjay Kalirona, head of Intex Mobile business.
