The website of the Interpol – the largest international police organization in the world – has been the target of a distributed denial-of-service (DDOS) attack launched by Anonymous hackers as part of Operation Free Assange.

The website has been disrupted for a short amount of time some 12 hours ago, but currently it’s working properly.

Some hacktivists claim to have also taken down the site of the UK’s Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA). We haven’t been able to confirm their claims, but if the site was in fact attacked, the large numbers of packets sent its way don’t seem to have caused any damage.

So far, the victims of OpFreeAssange are the websites of MP Peter Hain, UK Ministry of Justice, the Prime Minister’s Office, the Department of Work and Pensions, and the Home Office.

Anonymous and their supporters seem to be determined not to let this go until Assange is released by the UK government.
