Exploit Prevention Labs Inc., a new security software manufacturer, will release in June a new product - SocketShield - which will protect all PCs using it from browser exploits called zero days.
More precisely, SocketShield is meant to scan network traffic for zero days, a kind of software that exploits Windows vulnerabilities (bugs). Also,
the program is a "site filter", blocking access to any web site that might present a threat.
But this software doesn't function the way other security products do, meaning that it doesn't protect against malware, being able only to block these zero-days. 15 abuses are in circulation at the time being, exploiting the bugs present in Internet Explorer and Firefox.
"We're not saying that we're all things to all people. We're just a ingenious layer, but it's an important layer," said Roger Thompson, the company's CEO. "We know which exploits are important and which ones are in use, and we protect you until you can patch."
Exploit Prevention Labs representatives said that SocketShield will be available in June at a price of $29.95 per year.
