The browser will come to all Windows Mobile 6.1 handsets

According to the latest news on the Web, the long-expected Windows Mobile 6.1-based Palm Treo Pro will come to Sprint's network featuring the Internet Explorer Mobile 6 browser. This is great news for users of Microsoft's operating system, as the earlier projections only showed the browser coming along with WM 6.5, and not the currently available 6.1 version.

The Redmond-based software company announced last year that the Internet Explorer Mobile 6 browser would be launched with Windows Mobile 6.x, or, to use their own words, it will be “6 on 6,” yet no upgrade has been made available until now. Unfortunately, it seems that, this time too, the browser will not come to users as a standalone update file (or a CAB installation); it will become available as part of the Windows Mobile 6.1 AKU 1.4 and above.

This move is the result of the application's requirements, among which those that involve the hardware capabilities of the device, which include 128 MB RAM and a 400 MHz CPU. All the handsets running under Windows Mobile 6.1 that have the power, whether they are already available on the market or are to be released, will be able to get the Internet Explorer Mobile 6.

For what it's worth, we'll not have to wait for Windows Mobile 6.5 to come to the market to see the Internet Explorer Mobile 6 browser at work, yet there will still be some devices running the platform that will probably not be able to get the application. At the same time, we should also note that the new mobile browser has been developed based on the desktop version. Also, even if users will not be able to upgrade to IE 6 on their own, OEMs will certainly make the browser available through upgrades that contain WM 6.1 AKU 1.4 or later.
