Microsoft has finally brought its browser on the Xbox 360 platform

Microsoft has just released a new software update for all Xbox 360 users and, while the inclusion of Internet Explorer in this update isn’t at all surprising, its poor performance really is.

Microsoft’s plans to bring the browser it developed in-house on its gaming console aren’t new and although company executives had already confirmed them, not much was known until now.

It appears however that the Internet Explorer – Xbox 360 integration isn’t quite the best on Earth and the browser seems rather slow. Not only when loading pages, but also when it comes to typing an URL with a controller. It does take a while, so you either rely on bookmarks or you get used to it.

The Xbox 360 Internet Explorer however doesn’t feature a bookmark importing tool, which is probably one of the major drawbacks of the browser.

And speaking of drawbacks, it appears that this particular version of the browser doesn’t comprise a web filtering tool for blocking adult material from loading which, according to previous reports, is one of the biggest worries for most of the parents out there.

Instead, Internet Explorer can be entirely blocked, just like a Microsoft spokesperson said some time ago when talking about the possibility to access adult material using the gaming console.

“To be clear, we are adding Internet Explorer to Xbox Live, not specific adult content providers like YouPorn or any other specific website content. Additionally, we give members and parents the option to turn this feature on or off for their accounts. Access to Internet Explorer for all Child accounts is blocked by default,” he said.
