Since it comes pre-installed on all Windows computers, it’s no surprise that Internet Explorer is the most popular browser in the entire world, holding a market share that’s higher than the one recorded by its fiercest rivals Firefox and Chrome.

But StatCounter data for the month of February claims this isn’t the case, so Internet Explorer isn’t yet the number one browser in the world.

Google Chrome is actually the top choice for computer users worldwide, as it reached a share of 37.09 percent last month, while IE came second with 29.82 percent. Mozilla Firefox was only third with 21.34 percent.

Version-wise, IE9 was running on 16.87 of computers in the entire world, while IE8 account for 10.76 percent of the total market share recorded by Microsoft’s in-house browser.

The newly-released Internet Explorer 10 is still way behind with only 1.21 percent.
