To celebrate the launch of “Hunger Games” movie, Microsoft and Lionsgate have partnered to bring a piece of the story to the smaller screens of desktop computers.

Millions of readers of Suzanne Collins’ novel series The Hunger Games are eagerly waiting for the movie to hit theaters on March 23rd.

Before that, however, they can access exclusive content from the movie through the Internet Explorer browser on their computers.

In collaboration with Lionsgate and leading design and developer agencies the Nerdery and Ignition Interactive, Microsoft came up with The Capitol Tour, available at http://thecapitoltour.pn.

The Capitol Tour is expected to prove a truly immersive companion site to the movie, extending the film to the web by delivering exclusive content from director Gary Ross and the movie itself.

Fans will be able to access environments such as the Control Room and the Avenue of the Tributes through the said website.

“We wanted to create a breakthrough online experience for fans of The Hunger Games,” stated David Hayes, vice president of digital marketing at Lionsgate.

“We are so excited at what we’ve been able to create with the team at Microsoft by tapping into the power of Internet Explorer and the investments they’ve made in their product to bring web content to life.”

“We’re thrilled to show off the Capital Tour to Hunger Games fans around the world,” he continues.

The website delivers a great experience, and the technology behind it helps a lot, Ryan Gavin, general manager, Internet Explorer, Microsoft, notes.

“With the release of the Hunger Games Capitol Tour, we are now seeing how HTML5, coupled with the innovations of Internet Explorer 9, can bring to life one of the most anticipated movies of the year,” he says.

The website was developed using HTML5 and other modern web standards alone. Thus, The Capitol Tour is a plug-in free website and can offer a fast and fluid experience to all people when complemented by Internet Explorer 9 and its advanced hardware acceleration capabilities.

“If you’re a fan of the Hunger Games, report to the Capitol for the tour at http://thecapitoltour.pn/. By pinning the site, you’ll be notified of any new content – and trust us, you’ll want the notifications,” Ryan Gavin explains.

“The site will just get more and more awesome as we get closer to the release of the movie on March 23, including the additions of a training center where visitors can see Hunger Games competitors exercising and preparing for the games, and a memorabilia center where visitors can explore artifacts and weapons used in previous Hunger Games.”

Internet Explorer 9 is available for download from Softpedia via this link.
