As you may be aware, Microsoft is hard at work with web standards organizations as well as rival browser vendors, developers, etc. looking to catalyze an evolution in terms of standards support in Internet Explorer that would make the forthcoming release of the browser be at least on par with its rivals. In this regard, the Redmond company has published a collection of test cases on the website designed to serve the early development previews of Internet Explorer 9.

According to Jason Upton, test manager, Internet Explorer, both the web community and other browser rivals have found some value in the IE Testing Center. “People are discussing these in blog posts, email, and the W3C mailing lists, which is excellent. We want to make sure these tests are valuable and conform to the various specifications they test,” Upton stated.

Microsoft introduced a consistent update to the IE Test Center concomitantly with the launch of the latest testing Build of IE, Platform Preview 2 v1.9.7.7.66.6000. Earlier this week, the software giant brought to the table a new refresh to the IE9 Test Center.

“We received some great feedback over the last few weeks on a number of the test cases we posted on May 5th. I want to thank everyone who provided actionable feedback on the particular test cases. As a result, we updated 15 test cases on the IE Testing Center, submitted those updates to the W3C, and updated the results tables for the same set of browsers we listed in May,” Upton added.

Working closely with the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) working groups and other browser vendors, Microsoft has authored an impressive collection of tests. No less than 192 were submitted to W3C. The latest update deals with CSS3 and HTML5 details.

“Here is the breakdown of the changes: CSS3 Media Queries - updated 3 cases based on CSS working group feedback; CSS3 Selectors - updated 2 cases based on CSS working group feedback; HTML5 – Foreign Content Tests - updated 10 cases based on SVG working group feedback,” Upton explained.
