Internet Explorer 9, the modern browser that users of Windows 7 can now take advantage of, has enjoyed notable growth in usage lately, and is getting closer and closer to becoming the top browser on the platform.

Considering the fact that Internet Explorer 9 (IE9) arrived on Windows 7 only in March, the growth is registered during the past months is even more impressive.

However, it appears that the browser still has to increase its usage a bit more to leave Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 8 behind, but that it is well on the way of achieving that.

For the time being, the Redmond-based company is pleased by the manner in which its application managed to pass by other modern browsers out there in terms of usage.

Citing data from Net Applications, Microsoft expresses its content on the fact that all versions of Firefox or Chrome enjoy less usage on Windows 7 than IE9 does.

“Last month, we mentioned that IE9 was on a path to be the number one modern browser on Windows 7 worldwide,” Roger Capriotti, director, Internet Explorer Marketing, notes in a recent blog post.

“According to Net Applications, IE9 usage share on Windows 7 worldwide is now higher than all versions of Chrome and all versions of Firefox – second only to IE8. That’s great news for consumers and developers alike who can benefit from the richer web experiences and standards support in IE9!”

Moreover, he notes that the browser is enjoying great increase on the US market as well, where it is expected to become the leading browser on Windows 7 soon.

As always, the experience that Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 9 can deliver, and which makes it a modern browser, is pushed in front. One thing that is certain, however, is that this is one of the factors helping it gain more market share each month.

“Browser market share numbers are always interesting because they can be interpreted in a variety of ways,” Capriotti explains.

“We’ve said for some time now that the thing we care about most is that the web experiences we all enjoy are getting better every day through a modern browser like Internet Explorer 9. The growth of IE9 on Windows 7 has been exciting to watch since our launch in March.”
