Last week, on September 15, Microsoft launched the Internet Explorer 9 beta version and yesterday the company announced that they had over 2 million downloads of the web browser, in the first two days.

Internet Explorer 9 managed to surpass its predecessor – which had only 1.3 million downloads over a five-day period, and even the Firefox 4 beta downloads, that achieved just over 100,000 in a single day.

Since the launch, 9 million visitors and over 26 million page views were recorded for the Beauty of the Web and the developer-focused IE Test Drive Site has had 4 million page views since last Wednesday.

The Group Product Planner at Microsoft Corporation, Roger Capriotti, said on the Windows Blog that “it is very encouraging to see that as people have had a chance to dig deeper into the IE9 beta, the reaction has been equally positive.”

He stressed that the accent is not on the web browser itself, but on the web sites it allows users to discover, with the richer and more beautiful experience offered by Internet Explore 9.

70 new partner experiences that reached over 800 million active internet users were presented at the launch event and after looking at the click-throughs on Beauty of the Web, the top ten partner sites showcasing some of the new things you can do with IE9 are: Facebook, IMDb HD Trailer Gallery, BMW Vision EfficientDynamics, CNN, Agent 008ball, One Day in Beijing, BeatKeep, Amazon.com, The Shodo and LA Surprise Flower-o-Scope.

The Endless Mural, also unveiled at the IE9 launch event, also gives an idea of how the powerful combination between HTML5 and an extremely advanced browser.

Leading digital artist Joshua Davis showed how easy it is to create pieces of HTML5 art and add them to the mural, and since last week, users have added more than 2,000 pieces of art to the Endless Mural.

Capriotti adds that “all in all, we are encouraged about the very early response to the IE9 release this past week, namely because it signals that the emphasis on making websites shine through Windows is resonating.

“We are looking forward to more and more partners building great experiences through Internet Explorer 9 to deliver a more beautiful web,” he added.

Internet Explorer 9 reinforced Microsoft's global reputation as one of the top software companies, and its new features and many improvements are having a big success.
