Although Secunia reported a total of three vulnerabilities impacting Internet Explorer 7 since the final version of the browser was released on October 18, Microsoft has successfully fended off all reports and kept IE7 immaculate.

On October 14, Microsoft released a Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer as part of its monthly patch cycle. The Redmond Company applauded the fact that Internet explorer 7 is not targeted by the security patches. This, of course, mirrors the fact that Internet Explorer 7 has not been affected by a single vulnerability in its first month of life.

"Microsoft Knowledge Base article: MS06-067 - Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (KB# 922760) is a "Critical" update that applies to all supported IE configurations from IE5.01 to IE6 for XPSP2 and IE6 for Server 2003 Service Pack 1 except IE7 where the associated vulnerabilities do not affect this newer platform. As always, IE security updates are cumulative and contain all previously released updates for each version of IE," revealed Charles Watanabe, IE Program Manager. So, Internet Explorer 7 is the exception to the rule of Microsoft's monthly patch cycle.
