Internet Explorer 11 is one of the main features of Microsoft’s upcoming Windows Blue, as the company is looking to provide users who deploy the first major Windows 8 upgrade with a new version of its in-house browser.

While the leaked build of Blue confirmed that IE11 is part of the upgrade, the editors over at WithinWindows have come across a new feature that may be included in the desktop version of the browser.

It appears that Microsoft will offer improved touch support for the desktop flavor of Internet Explorer 11, so a swipe-based navigation feature could be released too.

While such an option was already available in the Metro version of IE10, Microsoft will bring it to the desktop working environment too, although it’s not yet clear whether it could make it to the final release of Blue or not.

Surprisingly, this feature is not enabled by default, so users need to manually turn it on with the help of a small registry tweak.

Basically, you need to open the Registry Editor (by typing regedit in the Start Screen) and navigate to this key:

code
\HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\DesktopSwipe
Set the “Enabled” value to 1 and you’re ready to go. A browser restart may be required.

In addition, Internet Explorer 11 is also expected to bring a tab syncing option that would benefit from Microsoft’s plans to release Blue on several platforms, including tablets and mobile phones.

Basically, this particular feature allows users to import the tabs loaded in a separate instance of the browser on another Windows Blue device, be it a desktop computer, laptop, tablet or phone. Of course, it would all be possible with the help of your Microsoft account.

Many more changes are expected to see daylight in Internet Explorer 11, but more information will be revealed in June at the BUILD developer conference, when Blue is also expected to hit the market as a public beta.
