Security solutions provider Sophos is proud to announce that tomorrow, October 31, is not just Halloween, but also the “International Kill-A-Zombie Day.”

On this day, Internet users from all over the world are urged to contribute to cleaning up the Web from the nasty pieces of malware that turn their computers into botnet zombies.

Botnets are utilized to spread spam and malware, steal sensitive information from unsuspecting internauts, and launch distributed denial-of-service (DDOS) attacks against the systems of various organizations.

Botnets affect each one of us both at home and in the workplace and that’s why we must do something to stop them.

If you want to join the fight, all you need to do is perform a complete system scan of your computer with a reliable antivirus, and ensure that all your programs (including the operating system) are kept up-to-date.

Finally, besides cleaning up your computer and the ones of your friends, you can help raise awareness on the issue. To do that, Like the Sophos Facebook page and tweet “I'm joining the fight! International Kill-A-Zombie Day” on Twitter.
