According to the same source leaking details about Apple’s plans to release Mac OS X 10.6.5 today, the new version of iOS for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad is said to arrive this Friday, November 12. iOS 4.2 GM was actually supposed to land in developers’ hands on October 26th, the same source said.

MacStories claims to have some solid info from an inside source at AT&T which reportedly leaked the following tidbits:

 - Apple is planning to release iOS 4.2, a major OS update for iPhones, iPods and iPads, on Friday November 12th at 10 AM PST.

- Updates to iTunes and Mac OS X will be released sometime tomorrow — iTunes will be reaching version 10.10.0 (simply called iTunes 10.1) and Mac OS X will jump to the long-awaited 10.6.5 version.

An update to the report in question brings additional details to the table, including the fact that AT&T staff has been tasked with thoroughly testing all Apple mobile devices that are to use their wireless network.

Tests are to be carried out in environments with Macs that run OS X versions deemed necessary to properly fulfill new test products, the web site notes, quoting the same inside source.

The iOS 4.2 GM was actually supposed to be released on October 26th, the source said, meaning the final version of iOS 4.2 should have dropped early last week, as originally predicted by Softpedia.

In fact, this person allegedly confirmed that iOS 4.2 was actually due last Tuesday, but “a bug was found that did not display Japanese characters properly and forced Apple to fix it,” this person shared with the Mac-centric site.

iOS 4.2 specifically targets iPad customers who will gain new functionality including Multitasking, Application Folders, Game Center, iAds, AirPrint and AirPlay functionality, and more.
