Until not long ago, speaking of Jon and Kate Gosselin and failure to make a profit at the same time was close to imaginable, what with the two being clearly the biggest phenomenon of recent times. Now, just a couple of days after their reality show came to a hurried closure, all signs indicate that the Gosselin-mania may be drawing to an end as well, the Chicago Sun-Times says.

Granted, such things are difficult to measure, harder than one would measure, say, the level of interest in a new film or music album, but, according to sources in the industry, it won’t be long until the public completely forgets of both Jon and Kate Gosselin. The now-estranged spouses repeatedly stated that they wanted to continue with their respective careers in showbiz, but so far, they’ve only enjoyed lukewarm reactions on their ideas, which could very well mean that we might be witnessing the beginning of the end for the Gosselin era.

For starters, Kate, who has lately been regarded as the more responsible parent and also the one with the most chances to turn a profit with future endeavors, is not getting the kind of response she was betting on. “Kate Gosselin’s proposals to several toy manufacturers – for a line of ‘eco-friendly’ playthings – have not been met with any enthusiasm. Ditto for her idea for a ‘mom-friendly’ (whatever that means!) line of beauty products for busy mothers,” the aforementioned publication writes.

Of course, that still leaves the possibility of continuing the reality show with TLC without Jon, or of coming up with an idea for another one – an option that is not available to Jon. Reports of him trying to start his own reality show have been making the rounds for a very long time, ever since before TLC announced that it would give him less time on camera, but, so far, nothing has come out of them. Networks, it would seem, are not willing to take a chance with him by picking up his show, whatever that might be.

“Meanwhile, despite lots of chatter – generated by Jon Gosselin himself – none of the rumored new reality shows he would front are gaining any traction with cable network honchos, who likely see the Gosselin phenomenon has run its course,” the Chicago Sun-Times further informs. All in all, signs are pointing to the end of the Gosselin supremacy in the media and the realm of television – keep an eye on this space to see whether that truly turns out to be the case.
