Paxar's RFID-enabled mirror

I'm sure you're familiar with the "kleptonarcissist" buzzword. Anyway, just in case you're not familiar with it, a kleptonarcissist is someone so vain that he/she compulsively steals glances of himself/herself in any nearby reflective surface-mirror. It makes more sense if you read the definition without the "he/himself" term.

Due to the magic mirrors that are now surfacing on the market, you're probably going to start seeing even more kleptonarcissists staring at mirrors. Here's a magic mirror that's worth mentioning. Paxar's interactive RFID (Radio-frequency identification) fitting-room mirror isn't breaking new ground actually. There are tons of similar mirrors on the market (mainly made in Japan). The thing is supposed to be installed in fashion boutiques in order to help customers take better purchase decisions. Right.

Here's the gist of it. When a customer wears a RFID tagged piece of clothing in front of the magic mirror, the mirror's LCD automatically shows rich personalized info including brand, garment description, size and color availability and also a mix-and-match guide that "helps" the customer find similar wardrobe items.

"The integration of Paxar's custom-designed RFID labels and tags with the bigspace's rich media and content, Motorola's RFID readers and handheld devices and Infosysy's Smart Visual Merchandising applications for store operations and eCommerce, allows Magicmirror to fully deliver the power of RFID technology and create a unique and innovative customer experience", said Chris Robins, vice president of trade marketing and member of the global RFID team at Paxar.

The new mirror will be unveiled for the first time at this week's Material World Show at the Miami Beach Convention Center. The interesting part is that someone could also combine this with eCommerce. Neh, that sounds too futuristic.
