As is the case with a range of its software products, including Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008, Microsoft is offering a free copy of Intelligent Application Gateway 2007 with Service Pack 2, designed to streamline the evaluation process. In this context, in order to simplify the test driving of IAG 2007 SP2, the Redmond company has packaged the solution as a virtual machine. IAG is the software giant offering for business users that need to accommodate mobile and remote workers. Intelligent Application Gateway 2007 Virtual Machine is a virtualized trial version of IAG 2007 SP2 delivered for testing purposes only. Users will have to register with Microsoft in order to receive product keys capable of activating the solution.

“Microsoft Whale Communications IAG 2007 Service Pack 2 with Application Optimizers provides SSL VPN, a Web application firewall, and endpoint security management that enable access control, authorization, and content inspection for a wide variety of line-of-business applications,” Microsoft revealed. “Intelligent Application Gateway (IAG) is a remote access gateway that boosts productivity by giving mobile and remote workers, partners and customers easy, flexible and secure access to virtually any application from a broad range of devices and locations.”

Microsoft time-bombs all trial versions of its software offered for testing, and Intelligent Application Gateway 2007 Virtual Machine is, by no means, an exception to this rule. According to the software giant, IAG 2007 SP2 will expire on May 15th, 2009. Only until that date will customers be able to try IAG 2007 SP2, and only via Microsoft Windows Server 2008 with Hyper-V, or Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008.

“IAG enables IT administrators to truly enforce compliance and address virtually any remote access scenario by providing easy to configure, built-in policies that address common applications and user environments. IAG SP2 delivers a range of new, important enhancements for customers: 1. Runs as a virtual machine on Hyper-V for low TCO, flexible/secure deployment and simple disaster recovery. 2. Interoperability for non-Windows environments with support for Firefox, Linux and Mac. 3. New application support for Microsoft Dynamics CRM and OCS Web client,” Microsoft added.
