Hearing that details on a company's product were leaked in some way or other is not really odd, but learning that a company leaked data on its own, through its own website like Intel just did, will warrant a raised eyebrow at least.
Indeed, Intel just slipped and prematurely posted information on its website about one high-end X79-based motherboard called DX79SI.
There isn't much chance that the page will still be up now, of course, but the folks over at
VR-Zone were fast enough to snap a couple of shots and get the motherboard picture.
The company's mobile site is where the leak happened so people who like to go digging through URLs can do so at their leisure.
What the leak shows is a board that was initially demonstrated back in September, during IDF 2011.
Some changes were made, though, like the number of SATA ports (six instead of four).
This is still a fairly low number of SATA connectors, though, considering that other motherboard makers, at least on their high-end models, put more of them, via special controllers.
Then again, with how capacious hard disk drives and even solid state drives are becoming, and with PC cases seldom having enough room on the inside for more than this many drives, even six ports should be more than enough.
Moving along, this is supposed to be Intel's high-end platform, so it stands to reason that video and I/O support would be extensive.
Three PCI Express 3.0 ports are mentioned, even though compliance testing is still underway and PCI Express 3.0 devices are very few.
Also, eight DDR3 memory slots are present, with a memory bandwidth of 64 GB/s (it runs at 2.4 GHz) when only the four blue slots are filled (speed reduces at higher capacities).
Finally, the back I/O panel has two USB 3.0 ports, six USB 2.0 connectors, two Gigabit Ethernet ports, FireWire, 7.1-channel audio (with optical S/PDIF) out and clear CMOS button. A WiFi and Bluetooth module, plus a mouse pad and UV reactive SATA cables will be included in the final bundle.
