Powered by the company's Atom Medfield system-on-a-chip (SoC) device

We were expecting Intel to get Android 4.0, aka Ice Cream Sandwich, running on its Atom Medfield platform sooner rather than later and the Santa Clara chip maker hasn’t disappointed as it now finalized its work and believes that the first tablets sporting this duo will arrive in spring of 2012.

It’s of course up to device makers to decide what version of Android they want to use for their upcoming creations, but we doubt many will go for anything other than ICS.

Notebook Italia has no word on specific designs just yet, but I for one don’t expect to see any major tablet makers hurrying to include Atom CPUs, even if these are Medfield, in their devices.

One thing is certain however. With Intel desperately wanting to enter into the tablet space we should definitely see some heavy battles going on between the Santa Clara chip giant and its archrival, ARM Holdings.
